Next Step after College to Become a Veterinary Technician
A Veterinary Technician is the human health care equivalent of a nurse or assistant. This is because the work of a Veterinary Technician is to carry out tests, procedures, and anything else needed to the animals after the doctor has finished with them. They must be able to run or manage an animal clinic or veterinary clinic, must know the ins and outs of animal care and health, and must generally be able to handle animals as they have more rash behavior than humans do do. This is a very interesting career move because your love or fascination with animals could come in handy in fulfilling your roles and duties. Nevertheless, we also need to remember that just like nursing, there are procedures and rules to follow before you can become a full-on Veterinary Technician.
To begin with, you must have academic and hands-on training. This means that you must fist pass your sciences, SAT and TOEFL assessments in high school before being accepted into veterinary school. From there you must be healthy enough to be around animals because someone allergic to fur cannot be a Veterinary Technician. Then you must take an Associate in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology or a Bachelors Degree of the same. You must sufficiently take on all the necessary modules like animal physiology, anatomy, laboratory procedures, working with research animals, animal health and nutrition, chemistry, microbiology, and veterinary management practice to name but a few. It would also help if you do courses like communication, business, and other sciences that are relevant or related.
You must also do extra training and then sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam and an exam for the state of intended practice. Passing these exams get you registered as a Veterinary Technician and in turn, you are now free to practice and take on this career of your dream. With requirements like that, your character and personality may be of great help. You have to be patient, a keen reader and listener, love to get your hands dirty, most of all, believe in your career and yourself, and all will be well.
